Barley water for weight loss


In this week's challenge you must Drink Barley water . Barley, is a fibre-rich grain that is highly beneficial when it comes to shedding those extra pounds. Barley is very high in fibre, making it one of the best home remedies for weight loss just like oats, whole wheat and whole grains. It keeps you feeling full for long hours. It increases your satiety and reduces appetite, lowering your overall calorie intake. The fibre in barley also promotes better digestion and prevents constipation and other digestive issues, thereby cleansing your body of toxins. Compared to its whole grain counterparts, barley is low in fat and calories. It also contains a good amount of protein, which can reduce hunger and boost metabolism.


Barley Water

Here’s how to make your own barley water at home:


  1. 1 cup of organic barley

  2. 6 cups of water

  3. A small piece of jaggery (optional)

  4. A spoon of lemon or orange juice for taste (optional)

    1. Follow the steps below to make barley water:


      1. Rinse the barley under cold water until water runs clear.

      2. Put the barley in a saucepan, along with lemon peel and 6 cups of water.

      3. Bring the mixture to the boil over a medium heat.

      4. Turn down the heat and simmer for between 15 and 30 minutes until it turns soft.

      5. Strain the mixture into a heatproof bowl and discard the barley.
      6. Your barley water is now ready to be consumed. You can store the barley water in the refrigerator as it can last for a long period of time. It is recommended to drink around 3 glasses of barley water a day to reap its health benefits, including weight loss.


          Benefits of barley water:


          1. Fiber boost

            Barley is an excellent source of dietary fiber. It is a soluble fiber, that can dissolve in water and provides the body with useful energy.

          2. Lowers cholesterol

            A 2010 analysis of clinical trials found that barley may reduce the level of LDL or “bad” cholesterol in the blood. Drinking barley water can reduce total and LDL cholesterol.

          3. Helps balance gut bacteria

            The balance of natural gut bacteria plays an essential role in keeping a person healthy. Studies have shown that consuming barley water leads to a reduction of a gut bacteria called bacteroides.

          4. Lowers blood sugar levels

            Barley water have been shown to help boost the number of beneficial bacteria prevotella in the gut. These bacteria have been shown to help lower blood sugar levels for up to 11–14 hours.

          5. Encourages weight loss

            Barley prompts the body to release hormones that regulate appetite by making the person feel fuller for longer. These hormones may also boost the metabolism, which can contribute to weight loss.
